The California Fuel Cell Partnership (CaFCP) has developed a new tool to help facilitate the demonstration and development of hydrogen fuel systems to support fuel cell vehicles. Just as conventional fuels used in cars and buses today must meet certain quality specifications, the quality of hydrogen is important for obtaining optimal performance of a fuel cell vehicle.

Cummins Westport Inc., in partnership with the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), today announced its intent to commercialize an engine for medium-duty truck, refuse and urban transit markets that meets the stringent 2010 U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) emissions standards and 2007 California Air Resources Board (ARB) urban bus standards. Scheduled for commercial launch in 2007, the engine will be introduced three years ahead of the EPA emissions deadline.

Pakistan's CNG Owners Association has reacted to an 8.25% increase in the wholesale price of natural gas with an increase in the pump price of CNG by an average 5.7%. Association Chairman, Malik Khuda Bakash, told NGV Network that the decision to raise CNG prices was made on Saturday, shortly after they were advised of the wholesale increase by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA), the government body which regulates pricing in Pakistan. |

Chive Fuels expansion of its LNG network in the UK continues this year with the network expanding from 6 public outlets currently to 10 by the end of the year. 2 new sites are currently under construction with both expected to be operational before April. The company has also purchased an additional LNG trailer to service the growing network, bringing the total number of trailers in the fleet to 5. The new trailer will be unvelied at the UK Commercial Vehicle Show in April. |

Australian fleet operator's growing interest in LNG is due to take another
step next week with the delivery of the first liquefied natural gas (LNG)
garbage truck to Cleanaway, one of the country's largest environmental
management contractors. The truck, powered by a Cummins-Westport C8.3G engine on
an ACCO (Iveco) chassis, is the first side loading compactor fuelled by LNG in
Australia.

The Clean Vehicle Education Foundation (CVEF) has announced that the 23rd US National NGV Conference is to take place in San Francisco, October 4-6, 2005.
The program begins Wednesday morning, October 5 and adjourns Thursday at noon. Related NGV industry committees and councils are expected to convene Tuesday, October 4. The tentative program includes a general session, luncheon speaker and breakouts Wednesday, followed by an evening reception, then more sessions/roundtables and the closing plenary session Thursday.

Philippines legislators are considering a bill to introduce a wide range of
concessions for alternative fueled and hybrid vehicles. The bill includes
exemptions from import duties and excises for AFV and hybrid vehicles,
exemptions from vehicle user charges, exemptions from tolls on expressways,
income tax exemptions for fueling station operators, and 50% discounts on
parking and sea ferry charges. The bill also includes provision for the
establishment of a 50 million peso ($US900,000) trust fund to be utilized for
research, development and promotional purposes. The bill is currently at the 1st

Iran is continuing it's drive towards having the largest range of OEM CNG vehicles, following an agreement between Fiat and Iran's Pars Industrial Development Foundation (PIDF) to manufacture Fiat vehicles in Iran. A total of 7 Fiat models will be manufactured by PIDF, including two Bi-fuel models, the Multipla and the Doblo. The PIDF production line is expected to be operational during the second half of 2005. |
